About us
Ascent is a design-led data, software, and cloud business specializing in AI and advanced analytics. We’re on a mission to help our customers do something new or do something better.
We design, build, and run data and AI-driven solutions, products, and experiences on Azure. Our pan-European community of engineers, architects, data scientists, and digital consultants empowers customers to take on challenges and opportunities, delivering change and scale with less friction and more certainty.
We work with three of the world’s largest reinsurers, and many of our customers operate in heavily regulated industries like pharmaceutical development, healthcare, financial services, and automotive.
Ascent is headquartered in the UK and home to technology specialists across key European locations, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Malta, and Bulgaria.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Data Consultant to join a high-performing team delivering modern data platforms and driving data-led value for our insurance and reinsurance clients.
You’ll work closely with business SMEs, engineers, and product leads to shape data solutions that unlock reporting, analytics, and application capabilities. This is a hands-on, consultative role combining stakeholder engagement, data modelling, backlog definition, and delivery support in a modern Azure/Databricks Lakehouse environment.
As a Senior Data Consultant, you’ll be a bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, helping shape data solutions that align with real-world goals and unlock value.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Work with business and IT SMEs to clarify reporting/application requirements and translate them into actionable data models.
- Identify and define the best enterprise data sources to meet business needs.
- Shape data transformation and normalisation logic (prior to engineering), using medallion architecture principles.
- Co-define data models and transformation flows alongside data engineers.
- Contribute to engineering backlog definition with Product Owners and Technical Leads.
- Support testing, defect resolution, and implementation as the design/requirements SME.
- Ensure alignment with service and compliance standards.
- Define and manage the product backlog; lead sprint planning and iteration cycles to ensure continuous delivery of value.
- Contribute to broader data consulting initiatives across Ascent, supporting presales, thought leadership, and internal capability building
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Strong experience in at least one data discipline (e.g., BI, Data Engineering, Data Platform, Data Governance)
- Comfortable working across the data lifecycle, from requirement shaping to model definition to delivery
- Experience in consulting with business stakeholders to clarify needs and map them to practical data solutions
- Familiarity with medallion architecture and modern data practices in cloud environments.
- Excellent communication skills, including data storytelling and written articulation of requirements
- Ability to collaborate within cross-functional agile teams (engineers, analysts, POs, business SMEs)
- Consulting mindset: proactive, adaptable, outcome-oriented
Tech Stack Experience
- Azure (esp. Data Lake / Databricks environments)
- Databricks & Unity Catalogue
- SQL(esp. MSSQL), Python
- Azure DevOps
Nice to Have
- Experience in insurance or reinsurance data environments
- Exposure to data governance, data quality, or data cataloguing initiatives
- Working knowledge of data security and compliance considerations in regulated environments
