About the role
Senior Data Scientists are the driving force in delivering innovative and high-quality data science projects for our clients. In 2020 Mango was acquired by Horizon Capital and now operates as part of the Ascent Software Group. Aligning Software with Data provides a powerful platform through which we engage some of the world’s leading brands in long-term strategic digital transformation.
The Data Practice (including Data Science, Data Engineering, BI and Analytics, and Data Design) is a multi-disciplinary team of data professionals working across functions to provide end-to-end data solutions for our clients. Data Science as a mature function in Data is dedicated to the business application of a wide range of data science techniques and industry best practices, requiring the know-how of applying the most relevant and up-to-date methodology to domain-specific challenges.
As a hands-on Senior Data Scientist, you will design and implement data science solutions for businesses, using the most suitable methodology and programming languages, confidently assuming responsibility for technical specifications.
What you'll do
- Using strong business acumen and a solid understanding of data science use cases, author and refine project technical specifications
- Relentlessly focus on creating value and delivering actionable insight
- Apply statistical rigour and computational efficiency in project delivery
- Design and implement end-to-end data pipelines fit for the purpose
- Communicate frequently and appropriately during the delivery process
You will Present work to technical and non-technical audiences, support Sales by participating in the pre-sales process and contributing to proposals, manage junior members in a Team Lead capacity and promote Ascent/Mango publicly via blogging, and conferencing. Also, you will deliver internal training and knowledge sharing, keep up to date with relevant technologies and current trends and travel for work as required.
Skills and Experience
A successful candidate will demonstrate these traits:

- Logical and systematic reasoning and communication with clarity and purpose
You need to be fluent in either R or Python for data science, and fluent in SQL (any flavour) for analysis; DBA experience is desirable. Experienced in applying a broad range of data science techniques, including data manipulation, visualization, package development, machine learning algorithms, NLP, Shiny / Dash, deep learning, and reinforcement learning. Also, you need to be highly skilled in at least 2 categories from the above, e.g. for R package development, functional programming principles, documentation best practice, internal and external data management, unit tests, CI, pkgdown; and for NLP, word stemming, topic modelling, word2vec, n-gram, text classification, word embeddings, sentiment modelling, tf–IDF, BERT. Azure Data Science Associate Certificate is desirable
