If you'd like to help shape cloud platform services with leading edge tech, and see your work have real and meaningful impact on the world around you, then this is the role you've been waiting for!
We've created this leading role for an experienced, forward thinking Cloud Platform professional to join our high performing team. Working with the Head of Platform, you’ll help to define and implement technical standards for Cloud Platform across the Ascent group, and lead the delivery of cloud solutions on projects for our customers, where your experience and expertise will have real impact every day.
About the role
As a leader in the Platform Engineering function, you will be pivotal in setting standards of quality for our Cloud Platform services and support the attainment of Microsoft Advanced Specialism certifications. Your role will be critical in mentoring and developing other members of the team, and supporting less experienced colleagues to grow their skills and expertise in Cloud engineering.
You’ll be part of a multi-skilled delivery team on customer engagements, working across a range of reusable architectural building blocks to support multiple teams in their delivery. You will be a recognised SME on Cloud Platform – a role that is a fundamental part of the presales and bid development process, working on state-of-the-art cloud-based solutions to help our customers excel. It’s a varied role with scope to influence and shape our Cloud Platform services with a customer facing aspect to your work.
The skills and experience we’re looking for
We want to work with a true cloud platform expert – someone who is at their very best working in a high-paced customer facing role, ideally having had previous experience in a lead role. You will have had prior responsibility for overseeing the successful delivery of cloud solutions and be driven by achieving high quality outcomes for customers. Excellent people and communication skills are essential to be able to ideate and elaborate on topics related to technology landscape and the value chain it can deliver for mid-market businesses – it’s no good to know your stuff; you’ll have to help our customers understand it, too! You’ll need to bring with you:
- Extensive experience with architecture and design of complex applications across various business domains and platforms with optimisation of performance and cost in mind
- High proficiency in distributed computing principles and familiarity with multiple architecture patterns
- Solid understanding of cloud security principles, governance, networking, policies, site reliability and development operations.
- In-depth understanding of cloud solution building blocks in Azure – and exposure to other cloud providers will be advantageous
- Proven experience of building Azure landing zones for cloud migration and greenfield projects.
- Good understanding of Agile and DevOps principles, and strong experience with toolsets such as Azure DevOps.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform and PowerShell. YAML, Ansible, Azure CLI, ARM and Bicep will be really good to have
Some experience with scripting languages such as Python will be a plus, but more important is your genuine interest in the Azure ecosystem and wider cloud-based technologies. You’ll be someone who loves to share their knowledge and see others benefit from knowing what you know – we love working with experts who want to pass on their knowledge to others, and who are happy to learn new things every day themselves too!
