Software Developer - University Research Project
Temporary to Full Time
Posted: 2021-06-02

Sometimes, being a software developer gives you the chance to change the world. We’re recruiting now for a junior software developer to join us on a project that might help you do just that.

About the Project

In this role, you’ll be part of a small, close-knit group of developers who are collaborating with the University of Malta research team to build software components that support and enable their research work. The project is called DeepFIR, and in it, the University team are using deep learning to restore very low-resolution facial images from CCTV footage. The software products we’re working on will make it possible for the team to complete their research.

About the role

This will really appeal to you if you’re passionate about research and academia – but there’s plenty to interest you purely on the development work too!

We have a mindset of constant iteration and improvement. Here at Ascent, we value taking personal accountability for collective results: when the team succeeds, we succeed. You will have some independent work to own which will contribute to the wider programme. There’s lots of scope for you to grow and refine your skills in this team, and our more experienced developers will be on hand to support and guide you.

About you

You will need to be a resident of Malta and be able to work on site at University of Malta when needed. We want to hire someone who brings a passion for great development – you’ll be excited about writing clean code and you will be at your happiest working in a small team. We’d like you to show us that you’ve got the learning skills to thrive here, so we’re looking for someone with a Computer Science degree to show proficiency in a related field. You’ll have some proven software development experience, and if you’ve got any understanding of programming in Python, that’s a huge plus. You’ll need to be curious and collaborative and show great listening skills. First class English language skills are needed, both spoken and written.
