This is a perfect opportunity for ambitious individuals to join a team of curious minds and supporting peers with a passion and the skills for creating value for businesses using data.

The Role

Here at Ascent, we believe that using data in the right way doesn't just help companies perform better; it transforms entire industries. If you're a Data Scientist who wants to help redefine the way companies and industries evolve, this is where you need to be! We're hiring Data Scientists specialising in R package development. You'll help world-leading brands transform the way their industries work, and be at the heart of our growing digital business.

In 2020, Mango was acquired by Horizon Capital and now operates as part of the Ascent Software Group. Aligning Software with Data provides a powerful platform through which we engage some of the world’s leading brands in long term strategic digital transformation. Our Data Practice is a multi-disciplinary team of data professionals working across functions to provide end-to-end data solutions for our customers. We are dedicated to applying best practices and up-to-date methodology to the challenges they face.

Responsibilities

Senior Data Scientists here at Mango are hands-on. Joining a multi-skilled delivery team, you'll deal with a wide range of businesses, and work with data in all shapes and sizes. You'll use the most suitable methodology and programming languages, and you'll hold responsibility for technical specifications we use with our customers. Our work is based around leading cloud platform offerings (e.g. Azure), data science and machine learning languages (e.g. R, Python). We will look to you to craft and implement end-to-end data pipelines fit for purpose, and to support pre-sales work by contributing to proposals when we need your knowledge. Combining deep knowledge of data science use cases with an understanding of business, you'll author and refine project technical specifications. We present work to technical and non-technical audiences, so knowing how to tell a compelling story is a huge part of what we do. We relentlessly focus on creating customer value and delivering meaningful insight; we look to our Data Scientists to drive statistical rigour and computational efficiency in project delivery to make this possible. More broadly across the team and the company, data scientists:

  • Contribute to building data capability across Ascent and in open-source projects
  • Guide and mentor junior members of the team
  • Keep up to date on the newest technologies and groundbreaking techniques
  • Attend and present at high profile conferences

Sounds like an amazing role, right? Well, it is! If you’re interested in applying, here's what we need you to bring to our team:

Requirements

We're looking for people with true expertise in R package development, so your skills in things like functional programming principles, documentation methodology, internal and external data management, unit tests, CI, and pkgdown are a high priority for us. We will be looking for:

  • Experience of applying a broad range of techniques in your work, including data manipulation, visualisation, package development, machine learning algorithms, NLP, Shiny/Dash, deep learning, reinforcement learning - these are all valuable in this role.
  • If you are using git daily, and you're familiar with Azure as a cloud platform, we really want to hear from you! for NLP, word stemming, topic modelling, word2vec, n-gram, text classification, word embeddings, sentiment modelling, tf–idf, BERT
  • Knowledge of API design & deployment, DevOps/MLOps are highly desirable, e.g. CI/CD, DVC, Docker, Kubernetes; also big data experience (e.g. Spark).

We look for people who are curious and inquisitive in their approach, with critical and constructive thinking driving decisions. Taking personal responsibility for work you're doing is something we value, and we want to work with colleagues who are great communicators, able to tell stories with data, and who listen and learn from those around them.

Working here

We are an equal opportunity employer and value inclusion and diversity at our company. Let us know if you need reasonable accommodation to take part in our hiring process, we'll make it happen.
